Problems after running a recovery in windows vista

Hi guys,
I am hoping someone can help me.
'Short' history: lots of problems with vista which never seemed to be sorted no matter what we tried. Eventually ran a recovery, using the disks created Oct 2007 when PC purchased. Comp seems to be a bit better now (although still some issues with IE).
Anyway prior to the recovery I was advised to save all important files, computer would not respond long enough to do this! However most of my important pictures/videos were already written to disk so not a huge problem. I had transferred pictures and videos from my JVC camcorder the day before the recovery, however had selected (or so I thought) not to delete these from the JVC until I was sure other copies were safe, so was not too worried about losing these copies.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, after recovery was complete and comp up and running I discover there has been some sort of problem with JVC cam, and only 5 videos still on there (lots lost therefore!).
Can anyone advise me if it is possible therefore to recover the pcitures/videos which were transferred to the comp before the recovery ?
Thanks for any help.
I am computer literate, so understand basic instructions etc, but not a true techy so be gentle on me lol!
Thanks again.

you can try some data recovery software, I would run the software and search C: and the drive for the camera too. But if data has just gone then its usally a sign that the files are corrupt.
I cant sugest any free data recovery software but I know there is some out there. Download a trial and see what it recovers, It will ask you to pay to recover the files after it has searched but you will know what can be recoverd with software. then you knwo if its worth spending a few hours going through google trying to find a free one.
or there is always the sort of sites where you can get software for free but its illegal and I didnt sugest it to you.0 -

are you searching for all file types or just certain ones. it may be worth searching for just movie type files, also if you are getting lots of search results it can be very easy to miss a file in a long list, try to arange the list by file type.
If you are getting alot of .RAW files then thats corrupt data.0 -
