Thank you though, you have answered the questions - and of course prompted a hundred more, but provided some helpful places to find the answers...

In answer to your Q's:

• I access this site from work and the local library;
• I would rather have a laptop than be confined to one room of the house, and be able to use it in the garden. I write a lot and would like to take it on UK hols where possible (hopefully no building sites...) - bearing in mind what nickmack has said about wireless hotspots;
• Yes I know that landline = phone line;
• I will use it as described but eventually hope to download music to an Ipod although this is another whole new entity I have yet to discover :rolleyes:...
