  • Simplest way to connect another PC and allow it to share the Internet connection would be to add a wireless network card to the 'gateway' PC connected to the NTL Cable modem.

Then add another wireless card to the other device you wish to connect and use Microsoft's ICS. Downside to htis is that the gateway PC has to be on to allow other devices to access the 'Net; upside is loser cost.

If you could give us a little more detail on what you are trying to achieve (how many PCs/laptops etc, which version(s) of Windows, etc) folks may be able to provide some more concrete answers. :)

    Hi, Thks for reply.
It will be 1 main gateway desktop PC downstairs and 2 more desk tops 1 floor up.Gateway PC and 1 other runs Win98SE and other PC runs Win XP.
It is no problem having gateway PC on .

    HI,

I would simply use a wireless cable router between the NTL box and the 1st PC.

Then 1 lan cable to the PC immediately closeby, 2 wireless cards to the other 2 pc's.

You will then have a home network up and no PC needs to stay on.

    Cheers

A wireless applicance runs of a small power adaptor rated at around 6w. That is the same as a TV while it is switched off!

This unit is wireless and has a firewall, but no ADSL ideal for your cable set up.
