Wiring in an old door bell push

I am right in assuming that you should be able to add any bell push to a modern door bell, aren't I?
i.e At the end of the day, it's the most simple bit of wiring possible, with pressing the button creating a connection.
The reason I ask is that I've found an old one on eBay which suits the age of the house (obviously I'm not going to tell you the link, or you'll all end up bidding
) but I just wanted to make sure I'll be able to use it.

No it's an old bakelite thing, so won't be illuminated.
