Elephant.co.uk -v- Admiral Insurance?

I have just received my motor vehicle insurance renewal from elephant.co.uk, which is part of the Admiral Insurance Group, today for £356.70. I thought that this was too high and decided to look at the MSE website and through one of the links got another quote for £199.70 with Admiral Insurance Group. I phoned elephant.co.uk and told them about the quote. They checked my new quote against theirs and agreed to match it without any explanation as to why the two quotes varied so widely when both quotes came from the same insurance group. Nevertheless, that is a saving of £157.00. Thanks MSE. :T

Tell me about it. We have got to the point that every year we need to call everyone providing services saying we want to cancel because we have a lower price. Then they reduce their price.

I was with M & S for my car insurance and they the best price they could do for my renewal with 11 years no claims was £553 so I had a look through here and eventually looked at Elephant who did exactly the same policy although my excess is £200 as opposed to £250 and they did it for £293.... Result.

Admiral to elephant. Only saving £50 but from the multicar quote from admiral for my car but we're £220 better off all in as wife got hers £170 cheaper with sainsburys. All done via comparison site.

I've been with both Admiral and Elephant for the past 5 years and they have always agreed to beat/match any quotes from competitors, regardless of the level of cover I am quoting to them (ie legal and courtesy car).
