Can anyone help..before it gets flung out of the window lol....I'm usually found lurking in the competition forum but have ventured afield to see if any nice techies can help out a lady (in the loosest sense) in distress..
I won a Cooler eBook reader which I gave to my dad. He's just purchased some books which are viewable in his library (Adobe Digital Editions), however, we have no clue how to download them onto the eBook reader. The website says "instant download...just drag and drop" but all we get are 'acsm' files on the reader. There are no clear instructions, and no reply from our customer service emails...
He's going on holiday tomorrow and really wanted to take it with him..
Many thanks in advance....

I have a sony reader and all I do is go to 'my computer' and open the reader just like another hard drive. With digital Editions open I just click and hold with the left mouse button and drag the book icon over to the reader.
Not sure about yours but it sounds similar. I will google and see what I can find for you.
Found this:How do I transfer files to my COOL-ER? Simply plug your COOL-ER into your computer’s USB slot with the included cable and drag and drop your documents for immediate rapid transfer.
COOL-ER has a very straightforward folder system; save your files into your individually named folders. You choose how to sort your library; for example by genre, date or favourite author. You have full control of your filing.
When you connect to the pc do you get the options box asking you what you want to do? Open the folder that contains files and drag and drop from DE to the folder. That should sort you.Mags - who loves shopping0 -
Thank you Magnolia
I gave up on my dad's computer, and tried again on my laptop about 10 mins ago.....as if by magic....a "Cooler" link appeared in the library, which I dragged the books into and hey presto job done! There was no "Cooler" link on my dad's computer
Anyway, thanks again, much appreciated

Does this explain the system any better? I found Interead's documentation to be about as much use as a chocolate teapot.0

Just out of interest, are these worth getting? And do they read pdf files?0

I won this one....and was shocked to see how much they cost...£189 each!! Personally I wouldn't pay that, nowhere near it in fact, I gave mine to my dad, it feels like a plastic etch-a-sketch if you can remember those! Some people on the forum rave about theirs though! I would strongly suggest you 'try before you buy' if you know anyone with one...you'll either love it or hate it!
Don't know about pdf files
sorry...but the link given by TangleFoot above gives you loads technical info

They do, but due to technical limitations the results may be difficult to read.do they read pdf files?0 -
You may be surprised to hear this is actually the cheapest (new) ebook reader you can buy. It is also the lightest.little_dumplings wrote: »I won this one....and was shocked to see how much they cost...£189 each!! Personally I wouldn't pay that, nowhere near it in fact
I have one and am very happy with it. It is a low cost no-frills ebook reader which is exactly what I wanted. Kindle owners say how important it is to have the means to wirelessly download books from a store but really, once you've loaded a 1000 books onto it just how often are you going to need to connect back to the book store again?! Not worth the extra £ and weight IMO.
On the downside the firmware is poor (though they tell me updates are being worked on) and has various frustrations. The books are not listed in alphabetical order which is plain crazy. Fortunately you can create your own folder structure. Also although it remembers which page you were on when you switch it on you have to navigate to the book manually.
The hardware is good except that the button in the centre of the ring is hard to press without also pressing the ring - I find a fingernail works better than a finger.
PDFs work very well if they are designed for a 6 inch screen, but are hopelessly small if they started life A4 sized. There is no zoom.
Overall I'm delighted with it and have already read loads of books on it.
I love being able to carry an entire library round on something thinner and lighter than a single paperback book and being an ebook there is no eye strain. I'd recommend it provided you can live with the downsides.0 -
I would be interested in these but only when the large ones get cheaper. I have a lot of technical books which come with a PDF version, but as Reaper says - you need a large screen viewer to make use of them.
eInk screens are nice to read - just like reading a book, not like staring at a computer screen.0 -
Think I'll wait for a price drop or try and win one.0

I think you will have a long wait. There is very nice looking touch screen one coming from Plastic Logic early next year. Hands on video of a prototype here:mr_fishbulb wrote: »I would be interested in these but only when the large ones get cheaper.

They haven't announced a price but I'd expect it to be about 3x the cost of the Cool-er.
I got my eBook reader as a stop gap because I think it will be a long time before I can justify buying a large screen one, much as I would like to.0
