Insurance quotes for imported car

I have a 2001 Toyota Yaris, it has always been insured with Churchill as I just continued my policy after buying the car 8 years ago. This year I thought I should make the effort to shop around for a cheaper quote. I know the place I bought my car from imports cars but not sure if this falls under the area of being a `grey import.` My car is nothing special and pretty much the same as any other Yaris, the garage I bought from is a huge business and very repectable.
When I ask for quotes online I enter my registration number and it calls up the car details. Would the insurance company automatically know it is an import from the vehicle details? Can I safely assume that if they go on to quote me for the car that they are happy to provide cover for it and if not then they would reject my request for a quote?
I am not out to mislead anyone here, I just want to be very sure that any policy I buy will actually cover me in the (hopefully very unlikely) event I need to claim. Just feeling a bit nervous as I have stayed claim free with the same insurance company for donkeys years so don`t want to mess this up as it would be just my luck to have something happen and not be covered.

Its not an import therefor wont come up as an import on the system.0

You can tell if it is an import from the chasiss number, the standard UK spec models have a much longer chassis number than the Japanese imported models .
If your car is an import you need to inform your Insurers as it could possibly invalidate your Insurance if they do not offer cover for imports0 -
Thanks both, I`ll check the chassis number tomorrow as I am 99% certain the car was imported. Then I`ll phone a few of the cheapest quotes to check if they will definitely cover me.0

If it is imported i'd check the cover you get as well. Insurance companys tend to add endorsments to policies on imported cars as vehicles coming from Japan etc do not have anywhere near as good a security system as UK spec cars so they might stipulate that you have to add an alarm/immobiliser/tracker in order to be covered for theft.0 -
I think you should check with an expert on the subject.
I know ChoiceQuote deal with Japanese import car insurance. Their phone number is 0800 440 2178. Probably worth giving them a call to check.
Hope this helps.

Its looking pretty Spam Spammy to me, I've look at your website and you don't specialise in imported cars. I would have said Adrian Flux were a better bet as they do actually specialise in imported cars

I think you'll find they do. I can't post a link here, but if you look you'll find it.
Incidentally, it's not my website!blokeinthekitchen dot blogspot dot com | @blokeinkitchen0
