Why not price it up individually?
Back in May we spent 14 days in california, we booked all hotels/flights/car hire individually, all accomodation was 3*-4*. Tour operators offered similar prices but staying at Motels/2* places.
Travelzoo Link
All accomodation for CA was booked through Travelzoo... the USA version not UK.
Vegas Promotions
I'm going to Vegas in 2 weeks time and booked some hotels using offers from Vegas Promotions.
Have a great trip!
*Virgin/Ba always have sales over Christmas/newyears .. perhaps look for flights then."Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0 -
BA fly from Heathrow to Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
Virgin fly from Gatwick to Las Vegas and from Heathrow to Los Angeles.
Then just book a separate one way flight Las Vegas to Los AngelesPosts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
or drive instead of flying internally - while a rental car in Vegas isn't necessary but it's nice...and with 3 kids driving to/from LA might be a better plan, especially as a car in LA makes things a lot easier. And by the time you factor in the time to get to the airport to check in, wait for your flight, fly, wait for your bags, etc...driving might not be that much more time. Most rental car places don't have a 1-way drop fee between LA and Vegas so you could pick up at one and drop off at the other.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0

We're off to LA on the 24 August. We have travelled as 2 adults and 3 children to the USA for many years (since 1990). This year, the 'children' want to come again even though they are 25, 20 and 17! So we are 4 adults and 1 child (because in most hotels in the USA a child is up to 17).
I booked the flights in January though Travelbag but I think they were almost the same through the Virgin site (Virgin was the best deal). Keep an eye on various sites -sign up for newsletters so that you can get information on special deals.
I have booked a car separately - did that three weeks ago and the best deal was www.uscarhire.co.uk.
I have booked all the hotels separately in the following locations. Believe me, I have searched all third party sites to get the best deals:
2 nights LA - booked direct on hotel site in June 09
3 nights Las Vegas - booked direct with MGM having looked at vegaspromotions Feb 09
2 nights Sedona - phone hotel (have stayed there before) having seen a deal through arizona tourist site June 09
3 nights Scottsdale - direct on hotel site as we've stayed there before - June 09
3 nights Indian Wells - received newsletter with special discounts and phone hotel June 09
3 nights LA (Huntington Beach) - Best Western site July 09
I would certainly advise you drive; it's all part of the holiday. I have stayed in Circus Circus (it was the best deal many years ago) but would not go back. It is a good price but there are better reasonable options.
You do not need to use a multiple centre/two centre agent in my opinion. Do it yourself. Plenty of advice on various hotels/motels etc on this forum and www.tripadviser.com and others.
Go for it :j0 -

I would agree that this is the best idea and you should save some money by buying an open jaw ticket rather than multi-centre. Also, the drive through the desert can be quite amazing, just make sure you have plenty of water and fuel.
For best Vegas rates look on the hotel websites directly.
For LA, have a look at hotwire and priceline if you're brave enough.0 -

Not necessarily. The promo offers and codes are rarely on the hotels' own websites. You need to check sites like www.smartervegas.com and Fat Wallet to find the best offers, then book directly with the hotel using these offers.0 -
going to LA later in the year found air new zealand did the best price for flights and so far the reviews for them look quite good0

Hi meletheridge
We've flown with Air new Zealand twice, the last time was in 2007. They were ok but this year, whilst they were marginally cheaper, I have opted to go with Virgin. You may want to check if ANZ have tv screens in the back of the chairs so you can choose your personal viewing. They did not have this in 2007 and that was disappointing and therefore worth the extra for us.0 -
but in any event, be absolutely sure you know and are happy with the restrictions involving kids in Vegas before you book...while I know people who take kids to Vegas and have a great time, they know what they're in for - what they won't be able to do, what their kids are likely to see, etc. I love Vegas, but if we had kids, I doubt very much we would take them to Vegas.QUOTE]
I think you may be right. Might be better to just go to Florida. Does anyone know of any other places the kids would love?I like my money right where I can see it - hanging in my closet.;)0 -

For what it's worth, I think that the west coast is the best option. Florida (and Orlando) is a different experience. There is plenty to do in Las Vegas but I would not stay a week there - 3 days perhaps? Lots of other places to visit.0
