Credit Search Appears Twice for Credit Card Application?

I took out an HSBC and NatWest Platinum in January - for some reason, both are showing as two searches on my credit file rather than once (NatWest twice on same day, HSBC twice within two weeks). Does anyone know why this may have happened? Also, as this relates to one credit card application (each), can I request that they remove one each? It may not matter much, but I understand that there is a chance that more credit searches in a short space of time could prevent any further applications (stoozing).

Many thanks

Anon

Take a look at the type. One might say "Loan",and one might be "Identification Generic Check" or something like that. The second one is visible to you but not to other lenders searching your file.

Both are down as Credit Card therefore not sure what has gone on - if it wasn't visible to lenders I think it would be down as Unrecorded Enquiry (as a few others are).

Definitely contest it with Experian - they removed an extra search that Halifax and Northern Rock had done for a mortgage, and they did it quickly since they didnt have to write off to them. They seem sympathetic to duplicate searches. They may have to write to HSBC though due to the time between those two.

Hi Anon - definately check with the credit agencies, they're very helpful. You obviously already have access to the info, so you should be able to e-mail or write to them to query entries. It's likely the queries you mention in your post are an ID check then a credit check for each of the banks.

I recently asked Experian to remove anything that was older than 6 years old and this is being done as I type, to minimise the bulk of info on my credit file. I have heard that if there is too much info on there it can be detrimental, and as it's Spring, a nice bout of Feng Shui can't do any harm...

    Good luck!
