Independent Gas Transporter
I am just about to move into a house that is supplied gas through an IGT, now as this is a repossession I do not know who the current gas providers are and cannot find the MPRN anywhere.
Now I know of the Meter Number Helpline, but I was under the impression that this is Transco, and as I am connected through an IGT, would they know my MPRN or not?
Any help would be appreciated.
Kind Regards

Istn there a sticker on the meter or inside the meterbox door?0

Something on the meter will tell you who the transporter is, you can then contact them who will tell you who your gas supplier is.0

I assume you have been told about the additional annual fee you pay each year. I ask as we were unaware of it and could never get a better deal on our gas supply because of the annual charge - it made me so mad.TopCashback £1792.63My Little World0

No, we bought a couple of new build houses. No info was given by either of the sales reps and we only found out about it when to moved suppliers.
There were no tags or any notifications on the meters or in the info packs given. There have been a lot of complaints made about newbuilds.
It is quote right that not all suppliers charge for having an IGT, although it does depend where you live. In my area there was only one supplier being this which was EDF, and I think they have now changed and also charge householders but like I say I'm not sure about the details on EDF now.
I bet in perhaps other areas there may be more suppliers that do'nt charge, although I wouldn't know about those, I only checked for my area.
It made me so mad at the time though as there is no legislation to make newbuild companies disclose this information. Like I say, I'm not sure if this has changed either. If you google it, there is a website with information where MP's have been bombarded by petitions etc requesting that newbuild buyers are given this information.TopCashback £1792.63My Little World0 -

Eon do charge as they where one supplier we had, another I can think of where Scottish Power.
I stand corrected on the area thing, perhaps it used to be different.TopCashback £1792.63My Little World0 -

Eon do charge the IGT fee on some of their tariffs but they definately have some tariffs which they don't charge it on. Did you ever query the IGT charge when you were with them?0 -
I did yes and they said that there was no getting out of it and that it would be there for the entire exsistence of the house and the only way of escaping it was to buy an older house and not a newbuild. We now have a house built in 1982 (obviously not just because of the IGT but various other reasons to do with new builds).
This is the link I was given when I was trying to find information and was the only way to tell if I had an IGT, it was only 2 years ago that I lived in the newbuild, so I don't think too much will have changed.

The above link has some useful info on it regarding IGT.
Another linking showing how big an issue it is for unbeknown householders.
