Has anyone flown KLM or Airfrance to San Francisco?

Hi,
I'm thinking of going across to California next summer, and was looking at flights. As I live in North England, I think that the best way for me would be to go Newcastle- Schipol or Charles de Gaulles- San Francisco.
Has anyone flown KLM or Airfrance over this distance?
I can't work out whether, in economy, we'll have seat back TVs for the longer leg or not?
It seems that it depends on the sort of aircraft, but, of course, neither website will tell you the sort of aircraft they offer on that route.
Is there anything good/bad about these airlines? As usual, I've found both good and bad reviews for both.
Thanks
Pippa

I have, but not in economy.
The aircraft that Air France uses on that route has some planes with seatback entertainment, and some without. It is the same type of plane, but some have been updated and some have not. Unfortunately you will not be able to tell until you are onboard.
The other option is to book a KLM flight that is operated by Northwest. I am not sure whether all of their flights have seatback ent (I did mean to check but fell to sleep very quickly!), but it is another option to consider.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Find out what plane they will be using, you can do this by making a fake booking, then go to www.seatguru.com and have a look, all the info on the IFE and good seats to grab are on there as well. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

airfrance are a law to themselves, we went with them to miami from newcastle, dirty plane on the way there no TVs on the way back, unsuitable film on the over head TVs for children and meals not as ordered.
You also have the misery of the airport at paris, when you land its a bus 20 mins plus to the terminal for all flights from newcastle which isnt good.
KLM on the other hand through Amsterdam is much better, straight off the plane to the terminal and a short walk.
Flown both with family and work and when ever I can will book through amsterdam as its much easier. Also found KLM planes to be much better.0 -

The planes that AF use on the above route are not all fitted with personal IFE, although they are all the same type of plane. Unfortunately Seat Guru will not help you differentiate between them.Gone ... or have I?0
