Royal Mail are hopeless

I claimed for a lost item I sent to an Ebay buyer via the royal Mail's appropriate form. It was duly sent back from their office in Stoke on Trent because it needed some clarification. I sent it back with my proof of postage form. I never heard from them again. I sent an email to their website and I got a reply saying that they will deal with it within 5 days. 17 days have now passed. I have also emailed regarding a complaint of other items going missing and I didn't have a reply to that either. It's a good job I scanned the proof of postage form.
Is it me or are the Royal mail hopeless in customer service or are they using delay tactics because they don't want me to claim any money back ?

Royal Mail usually write to the intended recipient of the parcel and then they have to respond to say they haven't received anything. Royal Mail can't settle your claim until this has been done. They are not speedy in sorting out these claims but you should hear something soon. Maybe contact your buyer to see if they have heard anything from Royal Mail?0

I had a similar claim and it does take a while to get sorted. I got a cheque for £39 compensation (maximum amount for standard postage) and the cost of the postage I'd paid. Took a lot longer than 17 days though. They will definitely contact the person you were posting to and get them to sign something confirming it was not received.0
