cheapest time to go to NY?

hello

I have lots of airmiles to use up, and was hoping to get a trip to New York with them - when is the cheapest/best time to go? Ideally the trip would be for 2 adults, over a long weekend, but we're flexible as to when.

thanks in advance!

In terms of flights, November often seems to look cheap.

But if you're talking about airmiles, I assume you'd get free tickets? I'd suggest September /October. Not too hot, not too cold. Just avoid national holidays (3rd thurday in november - thanksgiving) and you should be fine.

Thanksgiving is 23rd November this year.

Agree, that Oct is nice time to go, anything later than that it can be FREEZING and again it's hit or miss in March, sometimes it's light jumper weather and sometimes it's still hat and gloves weather.

If you are meaning the cheapest time to get your hotels etc, then as long as you avoid holidays, you'll find the prices don't fluctuate that much.

If you go to http://www.airmiles.co.uk and find the BA deal finder you can search for flights month by month. At the moment it looks like 3000miles return each plus taxes etc of £126ea with some dates not available. Usually you can pick up flights including taxes for around £240 each outside of peak periods.

    thanks everyone

I guess my real question is when is the best time to go so that I get full value out of the airmiles! It seems silly to use up 6000 airmiles, (which took literally years to accumulate!) when it doesn't cost much more to go spending cash! oh well.. I'll go and check out the airmiles website. Might be better to use the miles on a couple of europe city breaks instead I guess.

    thanks

We have found that the best way to use airmiles is to wait for their sales and use the miles for that. e.g. we got Venice and Stockholm flights for 750miles each instead of 1500miles in one promotion. Or to use them for the lowest airmiles option on the flights which gives you the biggest £ per airmile discount usually. The transatlantic option works out expensive as BA have some of the highest taxes on these routes.

It will really depend on what the airmile award availability is like, and the best availability is during the time when tickets are generally cheapest. For example Xmas is a popular time to go to NY, yet you won't have much use of your airmiles then, because there will be lackage of availability.

Have you thought about flying somewhere else, but long haul, like Mexico?
