Storing pics on the net

I have 2 PCs and it's becoming a pain to have access to my photos some of which are stored on 1 PC and some on the other.
I could do with a "central" place to store my pics, independent of either PC.
I've heard that there are web sites which offer storage space. This could be a good place to store my pics. Both my PCs have wireless access to the internet so I'd be able to get at my pics easily - and even from other PCs while away from home.
Obviously I'd like to choose the best storage space supplier, but I'd also like it to be free if possible. If they also offer tools for categorising and sorting the pics then that would be great too.
Does anyone have any recommendations?

You have to be careful about putting personal stuff like pictures on line, far too common for personal pics to be lifted and used commercially, some sites have draconian licence terms that basically lay claim to all rights to the pictures they host - not good!
My two recommended choices, buy a small network drive, or just a network caddy and add your hard disk of choice. Configure network drive on each pc (piece of cake). Move all your pics to here, job done and it's still private.
Alternatively, and certainly the cheapest as in it costs nothing, is just make your folders with your pics in "Shared" - so that they can be seen by either pc. Again, you can map the drives on each pc.
My 2p4kWp, SSE, SolarEdge P300 optimisers & SE3500 Inverter, in occasionally sunny Corby, Northants.
Now with added Sunsynk 5kw hybrid ecco inverter & 15kWh Fogstar batteries. Oh Octopus Energy too.0 -
Just out of interest does your router have a USB connection?
You could store all the pics on 1 PC then set up a network to view the PC with the pics when you on the other PC.Always looking for a bargain and to help0 -

I take your point about the possible licensing problems.
Re mapping drives - I seem to remember reading somewhere that you should never map the root of a drive. Can't remember the reason but perhaps it's too easy for a hacker to get access to the whole drive that way.
If I can nominate a particular folder on one PC (probably the one that's running Windows 2000) to be shared with read and write access, then that would act as my central repository of pics. I would need that folder to have write access so that I could add pics to it from my other PC. I'm a bit worried about granting write access across the network but if it is possible to grant it ONLY for that folder then it sounds like an acceptable risk.
Is it possible to share a folder this way from Windows 2000?0 -
I would upload them to Windows Live SkyDrive.0

Storing them online means that you don't need to have both computers switched on.
:cool:Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
I would upload them to Windows Live SkyDrive.
25GB free space - wow. Does anyone know if there are any licensing problems with this - i.e. you grant copyright of photos that are uploaded to Microsoft?
Also, I managed to set up sharing from a folder OK - it was surprisingly easy. But SkyDrive sounds like a better solution, if I could be sure I wouldn't be losing copyright control of my pics.0 -

From the boring legal stuff:You may be able to submit content for use in connection with the service. You understand that Microsoft does not control or endorse the content that you and others post or provide on the service. Except for material that we license to you, we do not claim ownership of the content you post or provide on the service.0
