No-claims discount proof

Recently insured my car via the Internet, changing company. Now the company I've changed to wants proof of my No Claims discount from the previous insurer. I'm almost sure there was no mention of this on the application.
I have recently thrown away my old insurance documentation so do I now have to contact my previous insurer asking them to send this proof and, more importantly, will they?

Just ring your previous Insurer and ask them to send you written confirmation of your no claims bonus. They will send this out and you can simply send it on to your new Insurer.
Make sure you ask for the persons name and note the date / time you spoke as some Insurance staff have a habit of not sending it out, if you take their name they will normally send it0 -

As above, just ask your previous insurer. They'll be happy to help.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

It seems like Endsliegh and others are too iddle to share information with your previous insurers."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I'm glad its not just me having problems with NCB and insurance companies.
A couple of years ago when I renewed insurance they never asked me to prove the NCB, I assumed that they were all talking to each other and thats why. Likewise when I sorted out my mothers insurance online no demands for proof were asked.
I renewed on my car in July with Sureterm direct and was asked to send my renewal notice showing proof of NCB. This wasnt on the form so I sent what I had and explained that they hadnt actually mentioned the NCD on any of my paperwork.
This wasnt good enough so then I sent a copy of my old policy and the previous years policy and suggested that they contact the companies involved to confirm I had made no claims if that wasnt good enough.
Cover note ran out at the weekend and nothing heard yet.
I've since had a run in with Asda insurance over my mothers policy. They too demanded proof of NCB which was sent by return of post. 2 weeks later she gets a letter that took 7 days to arrive telling her that she had to send the proof within 7 days or they'd cancel the policy. I sent them a letter demanding to know what they had done with the information we had sent, why it takes them 7 days to realise this and why 7 days to send a letter and at what point there threat comes into force, receipt of letter or from date of posting. in the meantime my poor old mother is worrying herself sick about not having insurance.
Day after I sent the letter they send her a policy and in the same post a letter saying that the information we'd sent with proof of NCD wasnt good enough. They were dated the same day and both took 7 days to arrive.
Have they all stopped talking to one another now or have they all reached a new level of crapness that I was just lucky to avoid in the past?0 -
If your cover note has expired you need to check you are still under cover (and find out where the replacement cover note is!). Otherwise don't leave the car on the road/drive it as it seems it could be now uninsured.0

I have sent proof every time I've got insurance from a new company (which I think is every year), and consider it pretty much par for the course. I'd be surprised if I **weren't** asked. I'm also surprised people haven't come across this requirement - apart from anything, if you're claiming you're entitled to a discount on the price, isn't the company entitled to ask you to prove it?0

I only came accross it this time on one of our cars with admiral and the other greeninsurance company, but to be honest I have it so no real issue it stops obtaining fraudulent policys been setup0

I dont have an issue with them asking me to prove it I have the problem with the incompetance that seems to go along with it.
The info is already there on the national insurance database which I assume they checked and then knew I had the NCD hence the reason I've never sent info before.
Theres no requirement to have insurance on a vehicle parked on a road/drive as long as its taxed there are no issues, unless someone hit it and then as its stationary it'd be the other drivers fault.0 -

You are wrong (assuming you think you can park an uninsured car on a public road)!
Leave it on the road uninsured and you will be in big trouble if it's checked by the police.0
