Any painter & decorator

I need some advice. My ceiling had to be patch repaired after having a chimney breast removed. It is lined with heavy embossed wallpaper which still look good. Pl can anybody give me some idea what to do with the small bare patch where it has been repaired. I cannot get the paper to match, one option is to remove existing ceiling paper and repaper completely. Cannot do this at the moment, is there any short cut I could take temporarily? At one point, I will have to do the complete ceiling as it will look odd to have small area with different paper. Any advice, pl? Thanks

you can try artex on the area and try to match the pattern somewhat. how complicated is the pattern? hows your artistic skills?

but you would need to paint it all too. that begs the question why not do the whole ceiling properly anyways? otherwise you are nearly doing the job twice.

And thenyou would set the mismatch in stone - you would ultimately have to either remove the artex or remove the embossed paper and artex to match.

Go to your largest DIY store and find the nearest pattern paper to the stuff on the ceiling and ask for a sample. Convince them that you need quite a big sample, (a whole repeat of a big pattern or however many centimetres if it is a small pattern), so you get a piece big enough!

Choose a part of the pattern that will sneak in most closely with the original pattern and stick in place, carefully trimming the edges to fit next to/over the edges of the original. Paint over the lot.

Should make it quite a bit less obvious. Make sure there are no pieces of furniture, pictures, ornaments etc (if possible) in the vicinity, that will draw people's attention upwards. :T

i dont think so. hot water will remove artex. its messy thats true.
but for a small patch, no big deal.

Hi there. If you are not up for redecking the ceiling at the moment, just wait until you have the time/cash, otherwise you will just be wasting money. There is no point in just making do. Asmy old grandpappy once said: "if you cant afford good quiality, then go without until you can. Anything else is a false economy" all the best!
