Remaining balance/Reclaiming?

Hello Everyone,
Just wondered if I may ask some advice.

I sent HSBC the template latter asking to reclaim my relatively small bank charges plus interest about 6 months ago. This totalled about £120 (forgive me, Im at work so cannot check exactly the amount). Since this was going on in my account I moved my salary and bill payments across to another bank. Leaving HSBC acc. in debt at £116 but well within my overdraft of £1000 with no activity within that account.

I just recieved a letter from HSBC explaining that although I am within my overdraft, I am £116 overdrawn (duh hsbc) and since there is no activity in my account they want to discuss my arrangements.

Im thinking of writing a letter that basically says, "well, according to the test case you may end up having to pay me £120 so why dont we just close the account as it is now? (ie. me not paying anything)"

Do you think this will work or have you tried it? Any anecdotal evidence helpful

    Just a quick P.S.

I could easily pay off the £116 so its not a problem. But its the principal:mad:

Doesnt hurt to have a go, but don't risk messing up your credit rating which sounds like its good at the moment, over a principle if you can afford to pay it, and get it back later.

You could write and tell them you consider the account to be in dispute and you;d like it putting on hold whilst the dispute is sorted and that you have entered a reclaim for charges, but to be honest if you can pay it now then it would be much less hassle to pay it before more charges & interest are added.
