Does anyone know of any software to allow you to save music tracks (e.g. copied from a CD onto HDD) as MP3??

Windows Media Player 10.. use the 'rip' option. Although i'm not sure if you can do it from hard drive, it may need the CD to rip from CD to MP3.0

I think you'll find it is the default option in Real player too.0

CDex. It'll rip your tracks to mp3 using the best available codec, and also tag and name them for you. Great piece of freeware, one of the most popular on SourceForge in fact.

Adaptec Easy CD Creator gives you the option of what quality you want the tracks converted as - useful if it's for the web.
Doesn't Windows Media Player 10 save audio as Windows Media Audio files?
And aren't these files completely different from mp3?0 -

Hi
Windows Media Player 10, can rip cd's to mp3, you just have to change the settings, Tools, Options, Rip Music and from this page, Rip Settings, format, you can change to mp3, and choose what bitrate you want.

I used to rip to MP3 on WMP 10 on a previous PC. Now I have bought a brand new Dell I can no longer do it !!!!
HOWEVER ... in trying to find the correct codec to make it work I found this site and found an excellent software player

Hi
The make of the computer doesn't make any difference, Go into Options in WMP 10, and set it up to rip to mp3.
Hope this helps0
