Looks like the first paragraph is about Captain James Hind who was born in Chipping Norton which wiki says:
From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chipping_Norton,_OxfordshireThe town's toponym means 'market north town', with "Chipping" (from Old English cēping) meaning 'market'.
And Hind's head was put on Bridge Gate, Worcester
From: http://www.criminals.lt/page.php?al=royalist_highwaymenAfter his eventual capture and execution in 1652 at Worcester by hanging, drawing and quartering, his head was placed on the Bridge Gate, spanning the River Severn, and his quarters stuck on other nearby gates.
The fruity coat could be Worcester's coat of arms which has pears on it?
And "leads to a tree" might be something to do with:Tradition has it that it was during the visit of Queen Elizabeth I to Worcester in 1575 that Worcester acquired its second coat of arms featuring the black pears. It is said that during her procession through the streets of Worcester the Queen saw a pear tree which had been planted in the Foregate in her honour.

I have got to Shrewsbury Charles Darwins birthplace.0

any more thoughts on this one guys?
kateabDefinitely NOT the blogger at Katie and the Kids, OK?0 -
I'm a bit stuck.
My thought were the pear trees on the coat of arms could lead to the Pear Tree Inn (leads to a tree in without), which might have a hairdressing service? I'm guessing, based on past questions we need to look at something for the next bit of the clue, so I've been looking at online brochures, but can't find anything as yet.....
Postmanpat54, do you want to explain how you got to Shrewsbury?0 -
Random ramblings, which may have no meaning because it doesn't quite tie up:
Pear Tree Cottage http://www.peartreecot.co.uk/ - Owned by William Shakespeare's Mother (Computer Board?)
Recent investigations into the Arden Estates show that PEAR TREE COTTAGE once belonged to William Shakespeare's parents, Mary (nee Arden) and John Shakespeare, who inherited it from Robert Arden - Mary's father. They mortgaged the property in 1578 and forfeited it, by order of the Chancery Court in 1597 for failure to repay the loan.
Best festive gift could be partridge (Pear Tree reference, so seems out of place) but then found reference to a Henry Fielding (H F?) book, Tom Jones, where Tom Jones and Mr Partridge visit to see the play Hamlet (Back to Shakespeare?)For instance, Henry Fielding's Tom Jones, published about 1749, merely describes a visit to Hamlet by Tom Jones and Mr Partridge.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Literary_influence_of_Hamlet
But I can't get that to lead to anything?!?!?0 -
My ramblings for what they are worth. I'm pretty lost in the middle bit, but for the last para these are my thoughts.
The best festive gift, an industrious peek
Mrs Peeks Christmas Pudding
Mrs Peeks was first created by the company Peek Frean in Bermondsey South London. In 1910 her pre cooked pudding went on to become a best seller during the First World War
Named for James Peek's wife. His Partner was George Hender Frean (HF?) who's second wife was James Peeks cousin, Hannah Peek, Hannah Frean following her marriage. (another HF?)
Hannah Frean
born Kingsbridge, Devon 1829, died Blackheath London 1898
she doesnt appear to have done much inbetween the two that I can find.
The only thing that has come to mind regarding "once flew" is Garibaldi biscuits (invented by Peek Frean) - dead fly biscuits but I don't think that really fits
more Peek Frean info0 -

Not much, but for what it's worth there is a Toni&Guy hairdressers in the Foregate, Worcester which might be the straightening hair clue, but after that I can't find anything that would lead to a 'computer board'
I'm also not sure if highlilght is an intentional spelling mistake? I would assume it must be.0 -

Not quite sure I got there was the black pear tree in the foregate. then in the foregate was hairdressers also Bro. Cadfael had a book about the raven in the foregate and Bro. Cadfael has VERY straight hair !! Cadfael comes from Shropshire abbey - shropshire is where Charles Darwin was born _ your heritage ??
Maybe a bit obscure but at the time I did it it seemed to make sense?!?!?

The spelling has now been corrected to highlight - must have read your post

Think I might have solved another little bit at last!!
The Pear Tree Inn "a tree inn without" might be:
http://www.maypolehotels.com/peartreeinn/
And on that site there is a link of Things to Do, "where one thing to do"
http://www.maypolehotels.com/peartreeinn/things_to_do.html
Which has a link to Castle Combe , "straighten hair out"
This leads to this site:
http://www.cotswolds.info/places/castle-combe.shtml
Haven't got time for a good rummage around though, will have a go later if no-one can advance from here!0
