Train tickets / Legoland / hotel package

Options
Hi everyone

Interested in taking the family (2 adults, 2 children aged 5 and 3) to Legoland one weekend, and leaving the car at home. Any suggestions on the cheapest way to do this is 4* or better hotel? We'd be travelling from South Cumbria (Windermere, Kendal or Oxenholme) and can be flexible on dates to some extent (aside from school, of course).

Thanks.

  • Just done the same and had a weekend in London and a trip for the children to LegoLand.

If you deside to go by train then get a family railcard (use discount code MAIL09 for a £13 one which ends on 21st August). You won't have to pay for the 3 yr old and if you book you tickets early enothe you can get them for £21 one way Advance single Oxenholme to London.

The other tips I can give you is if you day trip to Legoland by train from London is to get you tickets from the station (Waterloo for Windsor & Eton River or Paddington for Windsor & Eton Central) is to ask for a train ticket to Legoland and not Windsor as this will give you free travel on the Shuttle bus from Windsor to Legoland and as you kids are under 12 then use a Oyster card for your underground travel.

And if possible get some discount vouchers to get in to Legoland as it can be very expensive if you don't. We used the Walkers Vouchers which gave half price entry for the whole family.

If you are not driving it limits the hotels you can stay in as you will probably have to stay in Windsor itself, as the train station is there and apparently a shuttle bus service. We recently stayed at the Devere Hotel (3 star not 4) at Ascot, which is 15- 20 mins drive away for £10 for a family room (in fact on arrival they gave us 2 interconnecting rooms for the £10). They have sales every couple of months (last one dates up to 5 Sept), so might work out cheaper to get this and hire a car for the 2 days from somewhere near the train station (in Belfast last week we paid £28 for 2 days hire with enterprise). If you were planning 2 nights you could look at the Holiday inn 2for1 site (Slough is often £30 per family room, per night for the 2 nights, but again car needed).

we drove but i did notice that there was a bus stop at the bottom of the hotel drive if that helps?

OP you could get that hotel, which is the Slough Windsor Holiday Inn for £27.50 per night (room with 2 Queen beds) for example for Friday 27th Sept and Sat 28th September. Slough train station is only 1 mile from there. You could even get the Slough hotel which includes breakfast for £29.98 and that it is beside the train station. There is also a bus that goes from Slough to Legoland (see link below). Also like another poster said you can get a fast train from Slough direct to London Paddington, if you want to do a longer break to include London museum visits, hamleys toy shop etc on a day trip. You could also use your train ticket for get the 2for1 London offers. If you went in the October half term (open all that week 24th Oct onwards) train fares from Windermere to Slough work out about £96 return if you use a family rail card (might even be cheaper, if someone knows more about splitting journeys or special offers etc) . Have a look at this here.

I thought this was a good deal posted on Ukhot deals for ticket prices until Nov.
I think your youngest may get in free.
