I think you need a top up tv type box. I think the Ondigital / Itv digital boxes only work as basic freeview.0

Think ESPN is only via SKY subscription, not via Top-Up-TV.
Don't think they offer a stand alone subscription service like Setanta did or Top-Up-TV does.
I might be wrong, but i've only seen advertisements for ESPN as an Add on to a SKY Sports subscription...Laters

Be aware that after digital switchover, the old on-digital boxes will not work. (Except for one).

Decided this morning (Saturday) to subscribe to ESPN. So as directed by the ESPN web site rang the 08442 577 442 number. Got the Ray Stubbs cheery message to press 1 if I was a Sky subscriber, 2 for this and so on. Pressed 1 and straight through to the Sky Call Centre. But problem- as I am only have a free to air set up and do not currently pay any subscription they cannot deal with me and I have to be transferred to their Free to Air section- the inevitable phone cut off then happened. Tried again and this time told to ring 0844 824 44 00.Eventually after being cut off again got through to someone who could help. Except..... they cannot at the moment process orders for ESPN from free to air card holders....and the charge is £16 per month. I had thought that this would be £12 as ESPN state in their promotions. I was told to log on to wwwskycomgetespn and register my details. They would then get back to me in the next week or so. Not much use for watching todays opening game! Think £16 is rather excessive anyway. So tried the Freeview route through Top Up TV. Yes I can have this for £9.99 per month, 30 day contract, but there is a connection fee of £20, but the first month is free if I sign up before 31 August. Again no good for todays opening game. So judged on my experience I think that ESPN are not making a good start. The EEC's much vaunted intent to have keen competition on English Premier league football TV charges is not happening just yet. Thought that ESPN would be much better than Setanta- but not on these first impressions.Of course if you are an existing Sky subscriber I daresay you will have no problem at all. Finally Sky call centre staff confusingly call their free to air system Free Sat. I thought Free Sat was the term used by the non-Sky satellite system? After all this decided to listen to the game on the radio ...or not bother at all!0
