Does anyone, especially those with high performance engines, use the Super stuff (98-99 ron)?

If so what brand & what are your opinions?

I used to use Shell Optimax in my Mini Cooper S, Saab 9-3 Turbo and Honda Civic VTi. The exhaust tips of all cars were much cleaner after using Super unleaded - instead of black soot there used to be a light grey soot. Economy was about 5% better and the engines sounded more in tune.

I use Shell fuels in my MPV and Mrs Vikings Corsa. In my company car I just chuck Tesco diesel in because (1) it's the cheapest, (2) I get Clubcard points, and (3) I get a new car anyway in 6 months so who cares what muck goes in.

I find my car doesn't run any better on performance or economy with super vs ordinary, but premium brands (such as BP or Shell) do give better economy and lower running costs per mile than cheapo Tesco stuff.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.
  • v power gives me better performance and makes the engine sound sweet but no extra MPG for me (probably because the extra power makes me want to go faster!)

I haven't found any difference at all (Focus).

Yes I think this is a fair point.

But many cars will run better on higher RON fuels

I tried this stuff (BP mainly) in my 2L Mondeo over a fairly lengthy period of time - company paying for fuel ! I tried not to alter my driving style - found absolutely no difference.

Keep 'em coming :) Anyone with an Impreza, Evo or other high performance car noticed a difference between 95 ron & 98/99 ron?

MINI Cooper = no difference on any premium fuel.

I think this stuff only makes a difference if your car specifically requires 98 + RON in the manual or wherever. Its simply a waste of money using it in your average hatchback.
  • unless you've got a high performance car dont bother, i used to have a clio 172 and an astra Gsi turbo and used SU, but now only normal unleaded goes in my humble 1.8 astra
