can mobile broadband USB sticks pickup WIFI access points?

hi guys,

got a really old laptop here that doesn't have built-in wifi. I know I can get a USB or PMCIA card to handle this and for mobile broadband I can get a USB stick from O2 etc...

Rather than buy 2 seperate cards I am wondering if the 3G cards can pick up wifi signals?

don't think so...think you'll need separates...

na it wont work, 3g is the mobile internet network, basically data over the mobilephone line, its not the same frequencys as wifi.

They're probably counting on the fact that almost all laptops made within the last few years have Wi-Fi adapters built-in.

What it means it that in addition to O2 mobile broadband, you get access to The Cloud and BT OpenZone WiFi networks for the duration of your subscription. Of course, you'll need a Wireless Card/USB modem.
You don't get this with any of the other providers.
