If I get a single from Bath to Broxbourne on thetrainline.com and miss that train is the ticket okay for the next train?? (i wont reserve a seat) or should I get a return even though it is waaay more expensive??
What does it say on a single ticket, does it say the time or just the date??
Thanks

The results on the trainline.com show you all the different tickets available, what the restrictions are what the prices are.
Just click on the ticket type and it will explain which trains you can/can not travel on.
A single is usually available for travel on any train on a specific day - but some singles have restrictions, if you buy a specific type of ticket e.g. offpeak travel only.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

Ok have done but Im still confused.
On the singles it says only valid for routes passing through both london and reading, while the return says any permitted route. neither says anything about a particular time, only the stations it can pass. I will still use the same route if i get a later train so does it matter if i get a single or return?
when i got a return on the same route before i still had to pick the time i was planning to return when buying the ticket on thetrainline but i actually returned on a train later than the one i had picked with no problems. I was wondering if the same thing can happen on a single.0 -
If your ticket type is described as 'advance' then it's only valid on the train booked
If it's described as anytime, off peak or super off peak then it's valid on any train on the date(s) on it subject to off peak, etc, restrictions0 -

Ok thanks for explaining! :T its true what they say.... you do learn something new every day!:D0 -
If you want to save money - don't buy your tickets from the trainline.com. They charge commission - the TOCs don't.0
