Do I really need a BT phone line?

I feel really silly for asking this as I am sure it is a question asked many times but I couldn't find it on the forums.

I am just looking at ways of cutting my bills, and the phone is a big one.
I have a BT phoneline, a Sky dish, and broadband ( BT - £15 a month).

All my calls are made and received on my mobile. I never use my landline for anything really, it is just there and the phone gathering dust.

I need a phoneline for my internet and Sky presumably but at the moment I am paying £45 a quarter which seems a lot for something I don't use.

Is there a way of cutting this down at all , but still being able to access broadband and Sky.

thanks
Pete

So what's the extra charges for? I pay £11.25pm for my BT line which includes free weekend call.

It's not needed for Sky if you do not have multiroom but you can't have broadband without the phone line.

However you should be able to pay the minimum of £33.75 per quarter.

What do you mean, ".... and Sky presumably"?

You could make an instant saving of your monthly subscription (which must be at least £16.50) if you stopped subscribing to Sky (you'll still have over 300 satellite channels to watch).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Hi Pete, You will still need a working telephone line as the Internet signal is carried over it. If you like you can PM me your details and I will look at your BT account to see if we can reduce the costs.

    Thanks,

  • I cancelled by BT landline as I am getting a good mobile broadband service and have a cheap PAYG mobile phone.
