Im going to egypt in just over a wk and confused about what card to use. We will be purchasing trips that we would like to pay for with a card but will also need cash or smaller things... we have the choice of a halifax debit card, abbey Zero credit card, abbey current account card...how do we buy trips and get cash our without massive charges

I believe all but Nationwide and Post Office card charge around 2% charge to use cards abroad, and may be wrong but think Nationwide Debit is only one which allows cash without charges.
I would get some Egyptian Pounds so you can buy water, other bits, and tips and take sterling with you to change at the hotel or similar this was a better rate than here and rip off Airport places..
Thats what I did when I travelled from Luxor slowly up to Cairo, the tour company should take your cards if you wish to pay that way but you will incur charges each time.
Enjoy your trip : )0 -
hi we traveled to sharm in march for a week. we only took sterling with us and it seemed to be very popular in egypt. everywhere accepted it. the only place we had to pay with egyptian pounds was in a starbucks cafe in narma bay! we went to a cash machine next door to the cafe which you fed your uk 10 pound note in and it gave you the egyptian equivalent for a small fee. hope this is of some help0

Take Sterling with you and convert it over there, you get a far better rate. Make sure you do convert it though, of course the Egyptians will allow you to pay in Sterling, thats because they diddle you in the rate they give you.0
