Rightmove mapping tool

I've recently written a tool for quickly seeing Rightmove search results on a map. This has come in pretty useful to me so thought I'd share it here:

http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/54902

It puts a few links on the webpage, allowing the locations to be viewed on a choice of sites e.g. Google Maps, Bing, Yahoo maps etc. (Normally Rightmove only lets you look at a single item on a map and only using aboutmyplace.)

To get it up and running you'll need to be using Firefox and install GreaseMonkey here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748. For those not familiar this great add-on, it can basically run scripts after a webpage has loaded, allowing new features to be added to the page.

Hope this helps someone - please let me know any comments or suggestions.

Cheers
Steve

I'll check it out, sounds brilliant. The way RM does it at the moment is useless because you need to be able to see things on a map really.

Tried it, not sure I understand it.

It installed OK, letters beside each property OK.

What I wanted to see was all properties on a google map. But not sure how to achieve that. I can get one showing up, no idea how to see others; would it only add others as I view them? Or does it all them all? Or what... and how?

It should show all results if you use the links at the top of the search results page underneath the "<num> properties found". You may have to wait a couple of seconds for this to come up after the results page has loaded. There's currently only 3 sites that will map multiple properties - Bing, Google and Yahoo.

    Hope that helps,
    Steve

I did use that link, the one that said Google Map. It plotted that property. That was over 10 minutes ago, just looked, still only that one.

Edit: Oh, on the main search ... I clicked google map inside a single listing. Right. Off to do that then. Ta

Edit2: Those links are 90% obscured by the top showcase of listings. Can 't really see them, just (now I've been alerted to their existence) the very top peaks of the top line. Maybe it's a screen size issue?

Edit3: Screenied it, this is what I see: http://i30.tinypic.com/2q9l6iu.jpg
  • Oh really, that's interesting. One of the banes of web developing, things always look different on different people's screens depending on screen size, font size, resolution, browser etc. Anyway, I've just done a quick tweak to show these links on the same line as the number of properties so would be grateful if you could reinstall the tool and let me know whether that will helps...

I use that one, h adn't realised it has a map.. I love the way you just keep scrolling with it ... although it doesn 't seem to be able to rein in the search radius very well.

I also like: http://www.dothomes.co.uk - which has a mapping service.

Yeah, it's OK, but brings up sold houses, and sometimes doesn't work brilliantly.

The real advantage to a map is places like West Malling which normally bring up results from neighbouring areas like Leybourne and King's Hill.

  • Yeah the interface on the globrix site is very nice. If only you could have its features and the up to date property listings of rightmove, you'd have the perfect site.
