probably a stupid/repeat question re. Re-claiming charges

Hi,

I'm new to forums, so here goes my first ever post....

My boyfriend and I got engaged recently and as part of our new adult life :) we are keeping a much closer eye on our finances....

As part of this we are filling in the bank charge reclaiming letter so we can start the ball rolling on re-claiming the near-on £2k the bank has grubbed off us over the yrs.

We have 3 accounts with the bank, but due to a run of vv bad service (probably in part due to our overdrafts...now paid off in full as of today) we are in the process of changing all our payments and savings to a new bank in view to closing the accounts at bad bank.

Do we need to (or should we?) keep these accounts open with a minimum amount of money in? or will this make no difference to our re-claiming status.

thanks and sorry if this is repeating other’s questions.

Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to MSE :)

Its completely fine to close down the accounts and then commence reclaiming your charges.

Double/Triple check with the bank if there will be any interest due to come out before the end of the next statement period and ensure the account is closed down properly with all this taken into account.

Your charges claim will be kept on hold pending the outcome of the oft test case but I would definately get started asap.

  • Why do we not create a national no banking day and stand outside there doors like a picket line and make them feel the shame that we feel when we have to ask for our own money back, and then treated like naughty school kids and that we are the ones at fault for bank charges. I am also sick of being told that we don't deal with charges in store and that you must write to or contact our head office.

P.S. on other thought where would the banks be if we all demanded that we get a wage packet again and the bank don't get there greedy mitts own our hard earned cash again via a bacs system how about it Martin call for and ending to our wages going to the bank and let us get pay packets back again lets see the greedy bankers panic eh! What do you think lets stick it to the Man! As they say
  • thanks for the reply.
  • we will now be swiftly heading down to 'bad bank' to tell them they will no longer have the pleasure of our hard earned pennies to paw over with their greasy mitts....
