Do I really have to wait 7 days before reporting a NPB?

I recently sold an item on Ebay. The winning bidder is from Germany which is very strange as the item I've sold can is only really suitable for use in the UK. The buyer has no buying or selling history, and the 'phone number given in his details is incorrect. THis person is also not listed in German directory enquiries.

I suspect that this bid was actually made by a competitor to get me out of the market. As I understand it, I have to wait 7 days before I can report this as an NPB, and at that point the NPB has 7 days to respond. All together this keeps me out of the market for 2 weeks! Is there any way I can have this reported earlier?

Have you considered the buyer is registered in Germany but might live here? You may want to report them for false contact details but equally, waiting seven days might turn you up a genuine buyer. Have patience and then act according the eBay's rules.

No harm in contacting ebay and telling them what you have told us and asking them to check details.

I dont however understand how this keeps you out of the market. Sounds like you sell a lot on ebay and ok you maybe cant sell this item again yet but surely doesnt stop you selling anything else??

I'm quite new to Ebay (only 3 sales to date). You are correct, it doesn't prevent me from selling other items but I can't resell this item for 2 weeks.

I had thought that the buyer may be registered in Germany but living in the UK. However, the delivery address given is a German one. I've since checked and found out that the addresss is also ficticious.

sadly yes you have to wait 7 days to open it and then 8 more days before you can close it. unless the buyer replies.

After the first 7 days you can still relist, but you do have to wait till you can file the NPB.

If you only have one to sell you are hardly "in the market" so to speak. If you are convinced it's a frivalous bid then relist it straight away but you of course run the obvious risks if you do that.
