Pending Payments

Hi

How long does it take for a banks system to show whos trying to take money off of a account. (bank in question is BOS)

Ive told them ive had dodgy phone calls trying to get bank details

Ive had about a pound comming off the account since yesterday (last phone call was a week ago). I phoned yesterday and the man told me to phone today as it was not showing yet.

I phoned today and she tried to sell me a credit card and was not taking no as a answer, after admiting defet (after 10 mins - at work and cant hang up - dont know when ill be free again) stropply told me its still not showing but itll be showing in your account in 2-3 days.

My mate at another bank says shes at it. (but she works at another bank so the systems will be different i think)

any ideas if i do need to wait or if i dont?

I know its a bit stupid but want to make sure that its not dodgy before i go worrying myself

It is likely a test payment for something you bought on-line, or perhaps used a pay at the pump petrol pump. The £1 will never come off your account, it will just disappear from the pending list. Unless of course you have used your card to buy something at about a pound, or the other possibility is a fraudster testing your card to see if it is working (but this is more remote and I would not worry about it, if it was that the bank would have to refund everything taken anyway).

Ive not registerd for anything recently & not used the petrol.

The only thing thats comming to mind is that ive recently bought 2 films out of itunes that where going to cost me 8 quid. a couple of days ago, and something might have gone wrong at there end but im getting told thats a crap theory by the OH and other people ( (i bought from them before btw for a couple of months)

The exact amounts £1.57. i cant think of anything id buy for that amount....

i had a similar thing happen, but it did disappear as others have mentioned, turned out it was something to do with paypal in my case.

BOS can see pending paments overnight so normally, unless it is very late at night the advisor would be able to see it the next day. Even a test payment will show and will also say who it is from. Hope that helps!

Even if it doesnt specifically say who the payment is for it should have a merchant group code next to it, eg, petrol stations have a group code, newsagents, online, etc. So they should be able to tell you what kind of company its for if nothing else. (though it means them looking up the code on their computer/booklet which they might not want to spend time doing).
