so, if I paid in £100 a month, it would be ok? I don't have to pay my salary into it? (It is just a bog standard Abbey current account)

    Correct.
Just make sure that when everything has been fully open with Nat West that you never never ever go back to Abbey to withdraw funds in an emergency. You have to be very financially strict with yourself here until it has been repaid. Holiday, Birthday and Christmas tend to blow big holes in people 's budgets - start saving for Christmas now!
  • Just a quickie - doesn't the Natwest Advantage Gold current account have a £10 or £12 monthly fee? Their fee-free current account is called Current Plus, I believe.

You are correct the natwest advantage gold account is £12 per month but they are very accomodating if within the first 90 days you don't wish to keep it they will downgrade it to the Current Plus (For free and without further credit checks), however with the Gold acc the rate of borrowing is better so I'd suggest weighing up the benefits before instantly deciding to downgrade, they have just improved their package and if you travel at all in any year their free insurance can be worth it alone...

When I changed to the advantage gold account I was told that criteria and score for their other products will change as well, in that if you have the gold account it is more likely you will get the credit card as well... if anyone could confirm this it would be good..

Just because your credit history has one old CCJ on it, doesn't mean that an individual bank will count it against you.

Natwest may ignore single CCJ's below a certain amount or above a certain age though.

Great news that you are back in the mainstream market though - hopefully after a few months running your natwest account you can see if they will give you a mortgage too?

Smile :), it makes people wonder what you have been up to.
