I'd like to say I've tried it, but I can't, as they don't offer a version that runs under Linux.
From what I've read, it works, but whether it's usable depends what you want to use it for.
My past experience of using "open" public wi-fi access points is that they generally offer very poor bandwidth (probably because dozens of people are all simultaneously freeloading off it), and on top of that you will have to add the overhead of the VPN and any delays and bandwidth restrictions within AnchorFree's servers and network. Plus the overhead of the adverts that they feed you, which is how it's funded.
But it's free - why not try it and tell us how you got on?0
