As above, had a virgin c/c coming to the end of an 18 month deal, called them to close the account, was told this would be done in July 09. As they 'forgot' to close the a/c they charged the interest for the next month , to make matters worse, was told to manually pay the full amount before the next interest charging month.
I did this........then at the start of the month (aug) the took another £9k again with interest from my bank .
Abbey & Virgin won't take any responsibility & have been messing me about since early July
Virgin have promised for the umteenth time it will be back in my account in 5 working days & if i want a chaps i got to pay for it
In all this time i have been charged interest everyday
Pls come somebody please help me
Thanks in advance.

Just a small point about this, the interest you paid was probably trailing interest? I'm sure someone else can clarify.0 -
Once an MBNA statement has been produced, the DD is set in stone and will be collected regardless of any manual payment made to the account...UNLESS you contact them 5 (or 7, can't remember exactly) working days before the payment due date. This information is contained in your "Important: Confirmation of your direct debit instruction" letter you received when you set up the DD. I'm very surprised the CSA didn't remind you of this when you called, especially due to the size of the payment.
That said, the delays in refunding you are unacceptable so you should make a formal complaint. Best number to ring (for any queries in my experience) is customer loyalty on 0800 783 1116.0 -

Not quite on the same because I was stoozing, but had a problem getting money back from an Egg card. They messed up a £23k transfer and when I complained was given a free CHAPS transfer.
For the sake of £20 I'd pay the CHAPS fee to get the money back.
Like YB says, I'd make a complaint and request they refund you the £20 CHAPS fee, plus £45 for one month's loss of interest @ 6% on the £9000, plus £10 for your time, plus £5 for your costs in pursuing it.
Once you've got your funds back, put your complaint in writing and send it recorded delivery - take it to the FOS if need be, it'll cost them around £500 to defend with the FOS."A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five." - Groucho Marx0 -

if its paid and they took the extra amount by direct debit then Abbey can reverse it.0

Isn't there a time limit for that? It's probably passed by now anyway, looking at the dates in the OP.Innocent_Guy wrote: »Reverse the first payment then0
