Taking 4 month old twins on holiday - hotel cots?

Morning all,
My husband and I are wanting to try taking the twins abroad in September, hopefully to one of the greek islands. They will be 4 months old by then. Having been into a travel agents, the problem seems to be getting two cots into a room for "health and safety reasons". Is it possible for us to go abroad? I am looking for anyone's experiences in this area and possible recommendations would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi
It is possible for you to go abroad all this means is that you will have to either take your own travel cot or make sure the room is big enough for 3 passengers and cot space
Thanks

Would a 2 bed apartment at an Apartotel suit, you may enjoy the evenings with the twins in a bedroom and you wouldn't have to be as quiet if it was just a hotel room.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Thanks for the replies. Would prefer not to take a travel cot due to extra costs.
An apartment could be the way to go...:-)Proud mother of twin boys - double the trouble and twice the pleasure! :T0 -
Have you thought about finding a suitable hotel and communicating with them direct, we have just returned from Malta and I booked direct through a RIU hotel site, they were great at responding to my emails, then when we got there we wanted an extra bed in the room as the double sofa bed was not wide enough for 2 kids and it was up and in the room within the hour.Ok it's not cots but there was plenty of room and nothing was too much trouble.
The flights were really cheap and it doesn't cost too much to travel about.
I am sure any reasonable chain of hotels will be similar.0 -
Mmm, mattress safety would be a consideration for me. I would feel safer in Spain and perhaps with one of the tour operators that are child/baby friendly. I used Thompson when my children were little.
My sister went to Italy via ferry and car when her twins were 3 months. She took their travel cots and went to Lake Garda and stayed on a site with Eurocamp with her other 3 children! She has been to the caribbean too with them but in 4* hotels with really good children facilities.0 -
We have taken our children to a variety of greek islands over the last 6 years. Our youngest is still using cots. We have always had one rather than two though. We always sort our own flights out and sort out accommodation with the hotels ourselves to avoid the rip-off prices and other messing around we have received from package tour operators in previous years.
We have never come across such nonsense as the OP is getting. We have found the greeks will go out their way to source a travel cot, then clear out furniture in the room to make sure there is adequate space.
Regarding space, with 2 children we normally get an apartment suite which comprises 2 rooms, a kitchenette, balcony and WC. We normally expect to pay around 25% extra for this compared to a normal single room. This means we can get the kids to sleep and not have to creep around the room in darkness.
Re travel cots. We take pop-up travel cots just in case there is an issue. They weight hardly anything, pack to about the same size as a breeze block and put them on a blanket (provided by hotelier) on the floor. They are enclosed by a net, so keep mossies out.0 -
Great advise coming through. We have had two nights away when the twins were 9 weeks old. Stayed ina hotel in Blackpool and the babies slept in their pram cots...just a bit more daunting traveling with them to foreign climates!Proud mother of twin boys - double the trouble and twice the pleasure! :T0

Icklebeans when my twins was very young we use to cruise. My hubby and I found that it gave us some time on our own together and a well earned break. We would take the twins to the childrens meal seating around 5.30pm and then take them to the on board nursery which allowed us to have our meal in the evening. The P&O cruises did have very good childrens nursery and from memory it would open at 9am and shut at 9pm but then you had the night nursery to around 1am (children was supervised while they slept) We really enjoyed the cruises that we done.0
