Name or not to name?

Options
I've noticed a lot of people in this forum often say "A well known high street brand" or "An online retailer". When there doesn't seem to be any particular reason not to name the company concerned. Under what circumstances however is it inadvisible to name a company on the forums?

Personally when I had issues with my washing machine delivery I wrote 'Currys', not 'a well known high-street retailer'

I can't see the harm it does by naming providing the post is factual. Lets face it, when someone says a "well known brand selling electrical items" we automatically think Currys or Comet. Its actually a bit unfair to the retailer who the complaint is NOT about if people speculate wrongly!

If there is anything written that isn't factual it leaves the OP and this website open to being sued.

For example, Company X failed to deliver a product would be factual, whereas Company Y are a bunch of nefarious workshy ne'er do wells wouldn't ;)

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
    Now 20% cooler
