did british gas con me.
i was paying £85 per month with npower for dual fuel. a british gas rep called at the house and told me with £15 reduction on each of the gas and electric bill i would be paying £60 per month. after receiving the first two bills the payments with the discounts are £100 per month. when i phoned to query this i am told i am still saving money. my arguement is that even with the discount i am still paying more than when i was with npower.

I'd suggest you read the articles on Utilities. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/
If you were on a capped rate which has now ended, it may well be that you will be paying more, no matter what company you are with. You just have to shop around to find the best for your usage.
Don't ever sign up to anyone coming to your door. Do your research on line, and also check out Quidco and Topcashback to see if there are any offers on there, which will work out better for you......after having done comparisons to see who would be your best supplier.
Getting an online bill, brings your bill down that tiny bit more, and some plans are based on having an online bill, rather than a paper one.0 -

£85 - £15 - £15 = £55 "Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
If the salesman told you that you would be paying less than you already were with your existing supplier on the same consumption and that turned out to be untrue, then of course you were conned. This is the problem with privatising an industry with an essential product. Worse decision Thatcher ever made (and there were numerous howlers to beat with this particular one).Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
If, as you suggest, you were paying quarterly for standard tariffs then British Gas WebSaver 3 will* be £150-odd cheaper per year than nPower's standard.
If you were on monthly direct debit tariffs, the prices would be about the same (but you would pay extra each month for nPower until you are credited an annual discount).
Are you confusing a regular payment with an actual payment? Look again at the tariffs you were/are on and double-check. Your new tariff may well be cheaper (but more likely to be less than £15 per month cheaper for both together rather than each.)
* (for average national consumption. Will vary by region and actual consumption.)0
