Camping - Northern Ireland - Recommendations?

Hey guys, looking for some tips...

Can't afford a holiday away this year (or the forseeable future:( ), so I was thinking of driving off somewhere and camping over a long weekend. Heard that Northern Ireland was a bit rubbish for campsites, although I have had some pretty decent experiences around the lakes in Fermanagh.

Does anyone have an suggestions/recommendations for camp sites in Northern Ireland? or even down south, Sligo maybe? donegal? I'll be coming from Belfast.

Don't really wanna just drive to somewhere from a brochure, I'd rather hear a personal recommendation if thats possible.

Looking for somewhere quiet but not necessarily remote, maybe with a pub:beer: and a few shops nearby or within quick driving distance.

Fingers crossed!:D

Hi, your question caught my eye because I'm in N. Ireland as well, and have done a fair bit of camping!

If you don't mind a site that's basic, but has showers etc, there's one a couple of miles outside Ballycastle, on Carrickmore Rd, called Maguires Strand. Very small- takes about a dozen tents, amazing views over to Rathlin & Mull of Kintyre. Great base for going up to Fairhead etc. Plus you're near enough to Ballycastle to go in for a meal or a drink.

It's a few years since we were there, but we loved it- we had gorgeous weather though, and that always makes a big difference! :)

Found this link with Google: http://www.ballycastle.currantbun.com/caravansites.htm

(Might be worth asking about camping on the N. Ireland board, probably get a few more replies.)

www.ukcampsite.co.uk Is a good place to look, it has campsite reviews from real campers.

I'm thinking maybe castle archdale in fermanagah... its supposed to be good but kinda pricey - £15 a night! Last time I went camping it was £2.50 :rotfl:

anyway, thanks for your advice! :T
