Wrong Date on Parking Ticket

This issue has now been resolved but am just curious as to what others would have done, we're quite chicken so just gave in.

on a SUNDAY near a car boot at 7am my OH got a parking ticket for parking on the kurb (we think) she admits she must have been in the wrong, but on the parking ticket that was written out by west yorkshire police they had written the date of offence by the registration number, but at the bottom where the officer signs and dates, he had put the wrong date, (I think if I remember, two months behind, if people would like to see a picture of the ticket, I may still be able to find it). meaning the ticket having two dates on, surely making it void?

I took the ticket into the police station to see what they said, the lady at the desk explained to me that the wrong date had been put on (no S&*t sherlock) and that was that really.

In my opinion if me and OH had more time and more balls we really (on behalf of others) should of appealed against it, but we just haven't got enough time so we just gave in and paid up.

What do others think we should of done?

I would imagine an incorrect date thusly makes the signature invalid. And no signature makes the document invalid?

This is a ticket from the police, and not from the council. There is a world of difference. If you want to dispute a police ticket, you face a trip to the Magistrates Court.

I personally would have paid. However, had it been a council ticket, that would have been a different matter.

As it was subject to criminal procedures then they would have just used the 'slip' rule and corrected the date.

Later paperwork is the stuff that counts and that would have been correct.
