Natwest First Reserve - how do I withdraw funds?!

I have a Natwest First Reserve savings account (very basic savings account). Up until recently I didn't really use it very much and it came with a Solo card to use in the cashpoint or in shops so I just spent what was in there using the Solo card.

I now have a large-ish sum in there and wanted to transfer it to my Barclays current account but there doesn't seem to be a way of transferring the money! I rang Natwest and they said that I needed to order and then activate a card reader on the account, which I have now done, but it still won't allow me to make payments online to another account.

I rang Natwest again and first of all she said that I should be able to make a payment/transfer to another UK account but while I was on the phone to her I read out the info on the Natwest website which only mentioned transfers to another Natwest account in my name (which I don't have) and she then said that it wasn't possible and I will have to withdraw my money in cash over the counter (it's over 1k) and then go to Barclays and deposit it!

Does anyone else have a First Reserve account - is this right?! Thanks in advance for any thoughts :)

If you have a solo cash card from the account, can you not just go into the Barclays bank and tell them you want to make a payment into your other account and pay it via Solo card? Or over the phone with Barclays? The same as any other payment, only this time you are paying yourself?

    Domino, I've never done that.

Have you tried to set up a new payee on your online banking?

Thanks Domino but as far as I'm aware you can't 'pay' a private bank account with what is essentially a debit card. If the account had a cheque book I could have written myself a cheque but it doesn't!

    I've tried:
    Payments>Single payments>Make a payment
Payments>Single payments>View, amend, delete or add a payee
    Payments>Standing orders> Create a new standing order
Transfers>To another Bank or to another persons account>Payments to another bank or to another persons account

With all of the above I get the message: 'Unfortunately - this option is not available to you. This is because it is not appropriate to your particular account on-line, or does not apply to customers under 16 years. For further assistance please contact the online banking helpdesk or visit your local branch. For a list of helpdesk numbers, please see our page of contact numbers.

I just can't believe that in this day and age the only way of withdrawing the money is in cash over the counter. The helpdesk first of all was saying I should have been able to make a payment out of the account, it was only when I read to her what was on the Natwest site about transfers to other natwest accounts and the fact it didn't mention other bank accounts she suddenly came back and said that the account couldn't make payments out.

Open a basic current account and use that to transfer out

You can withdraw the money in cash over the counter straight away providing it is not over £20000.00 which requires 24 hours notice. If you go in with just your debit card from your current account and pin you are limited to £5000.00 but with secondary ID you can take out more. I would out of courtesy make the branch aware you want to take out a certain amount.

I hope that part of it helps.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
