  • :hello: Found Comet auction site last year and bagged a large chest freezer for £80 + £25 delivery, still saving over £80 despite delivery charge. The only fault we could find was that the lock did not work apart from that it was new (Ex display I think). It was deliverd on time no problem. :)

Anyhow we now shop for all the freezable bargains we can find and it's already paid for itself!(last week bought 9 packs sainsbury's premium sausages 10p per pack, on offer 2 for £2.50 so we paid them 90p they paid us £3.72!:rotfl:)

I do agree to some extent that it can be driven like ebay, but what I have always found on this site is that although you have a winning bid almost a fews minutes before completion, someone adds a higher bid, so you can end up paying more at the last minute if you want to win the item, and YES dont forget Postage and Package, as it adds up.

I'd look on ebay. I managed a dvd/freeview player/recorder which was a factory second, got it about 3 years ago and is still going strong. Only error was a minor scratch on the surface, but like a hairclip type scratch, nothing serious, marked as B+ grade and about 80% of the rrp at the time.

As far as white goods go I'd try freecycle but not seen any factory second sites anywhere aside from Comet clearance which only seems to save 5 or 10% when I visit.

I know Argos has a clearance site they show on ebay, there are others there too, look via the outlet shop page.

Just throwing this out there: I bought a Humax Freeview box from ebay (they seem pretty reputable and professional) which was advertised as "Grade A". Ebay's definition of New/Other implies a factory second/open box.

The retailer offered no other explanation, so I bought with confidence.

The unit seemed intact, and the box did appear open, but everything else was pristine.

However, I happened to look at the Humax Direct website, and their definition of Grade A seems to imply it's possible that Grade A could mean refurbished:
"predominantly store returns that have been tested and where appropriate repaired to an "as new" standard in our own service centre or factory. They come fully boxed with all accessories and full instructions and are all backed up by a complete 1 year on site warranty." http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/prodcat2.asp?cat=Factory

I've emailed the ebay seller to make sure. I have such bad luck with PVRs/hard drives it doesn't inspire confidence in me.

Factory second, to me, means cosmetic flaws, rather than refurbished? Or is it up to the seller to clarify themselves?
  • Have a look here.
