Tkmaxx Returns??

Hi there,

I purchased a shirt from tkmaxx for someones birthday and asked at time of sale if it would be ok to return if doesnt fit, I was told fine and I am pretty sure I was told I have upto 6 months if items are returned in same condition.

Anyway I took the shirt back today to exchange for a larger size and was told that it was past the 14 days for return and exchange and that I would have to keep the shirt.

I was not told this at time of sale and nor did I notice the signs stating this!

What are my rights with this? I have the reciept and the tags are still on shirt I only want to exchange it for next size up!

The shirt is useless if I can not exchange it. It is 21 days since I purchased it so is 7 days after the said time.

They would never have told you 6 months - it's never been their policy to let you have that long, as far as I know.

It's been 14 days for a while now - there are signs up, and it says on the receipt as well, I think.

I don't think there is anything you can do about it now. I am surprised they didn't allow an exchange though, as it makes no odds to them.

Does the receipt not detail the returns policy, or are there not signs near the till? I would be very surprised if it did not (and even more surprised if someone had told you six months!).

yea i noticed it today behind the tills and on the receipt but was not made aware of this when asking about an exchange or refund as it was a gift and as I was told would be fine I dint think of looking at the receipt till now.

So there are no legal rights to exchange it? As it is the wrong size? I dont want a refund.

No, unless you can prove that you were misinformed (which I doubt) you have no legal right to an exchange.

Thats bad, I should have been made aware of this, ok yea I was a bit blind and naive but I have never known a store to refuse an exchange after 14 days, I thought you had upto a year to exchange something according to law

You have no right to an exchange or a refund unless goods are faulty. Shops that do exchange and refund do so out of goodwill so this is over and above consumer law. Could you sell the shirt on ebay perhaps?

I dont know will have to figure something I guess and know I wont be using tkmaxx again! thanks for the advice anyways ;}

There are lots of threads on here about problems with returning stuff to TKMaxx. Personally after reading the problems some people have had on here, I would never purchase anything from there as a present and only buy clothes if I could try them on first. I don't go in there very often though as I can't be bothered to trawl through all the rails and rails of clothes!

lol yea same I dont normally go in there for same reasons but I couldnt find what I wanted anyone else :{
