Wisdom tooth pain but they won't remove them!!!

If you have any private medical insurance, through work or personal, this more often than not covers wisdom tooth removal in hospital.
Just a thought in case you have it.How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Buy some Corsodyll Gel from your chemist and put it on toothbrush and massage it over the gum where the wisdom tooth is. You need to keep it clean to avoid the infection0

Anyone waiting for wisdom tooth extraction here has my sympathy. When I got an infection back in March I didn't believe they would honestly make me wait 6 months to have the teeth out. When I was told I just have to take antibiotics and painkillers I was incredulous. But that's the good ole NHS I guess. When I tell my American friends they don't believe me.
For those waiting I found salt rinses are the best for pain and gum inflammation. They told me to use Corsodyl which does help but I found the salt was even better. Also eating soft food, as chewing alot seems to aggravate the problem.
I am due to have all 4 teeth removed on Oct 3rd under GA but am really scared as I was warned of damage to lingual and inferior alveolar nerve on Friday at the hospital. Anyone got any advice on this and what the chance of this happening are? The Senior House Officer I saw thinks one side will be okay but the other will probably be numb for 4 months or it could be permanent. Can you really tell from an x-ray?
Anyone got any advice?
Thanks!

Ok you can tell a lot from the xray but not everything, as the xray is only 2dimensional even if it seems the nerve is very close to the tooth, it sometimes may be on the side but one cannot tell from the xray totally.
The warnings are mandatory, they have to be given. I need to advise my pts of the same possibilitys, in reality it doesnt happen very often.
Also you saw a SHO, with all due respect most are very early on in their careers and so would not take what they say to be totally true.
You need them out, try to calm down if possible and obviously the consultant will be doing the surgery so you will be in great hands.
any more info, just ask

Only problem is the consultant is NOT doing the surgery. I called the hospital today to see if I could speak to someone else and get a second opinion. I asked to speak to who was going to do the surgery. She is an SAS doctor and I was told by the receptionist that this is one level below a registrar. Does that mean she's still in training?
Anyway she was in but wouldn't speak to me and told the receptionist that she'll speak to me on the day of the surgery.
As for the consultant I asked the receptionist why I wasn't having the surgery done by him and was told he doesn't do NHS work except for oral cancers and any wisdom teeth extractions he does is done privately.
So that's that.
I got in touch with the consultant's secretary and made an appt to see him privately just to talk to him and get his opinion. Since he's at the top of the chain so to speak I will be more reassured by what he has to say.
Thanks for your help and comments Inspiron.
