Do children's savings affect benefits?

Hi all,

My sister currently claims Job Seekers Allowance and Child Tax Credit. Her son is due to receive a tidy sum of money from his grandmother soon - should the benefits office be notified and will this money affect my sister's claim in any way?

So long as the money has been given to the son, and not only to avoid the mother losing benefits, then it should only affect the CTC if anything.

She will need to inform them both but it should definitely not impact on her JSA.

For ctc it only affects if income from the capital exceeds £300 in any one year,as for JSA is she on income based or cont.based,if ib then they will have to be notified if the childs savings exceed £3000

just a thought on this what if the money goes into a account that can not be touched until the child turns 16 or 18.
