Broken pushchair - where do I stand??

Options
I brought a pushchair last june, ahead of my daughters birth in october.

I had to return it to the company in february (after 4 months use) to be repaired as the back wheels had worn down completely. It was repaired and sent back to me.
I then had to return it again in may as the wheels had again worn down, once again it was repaired and returned.

I have now had to contact the retailer again as the wheels are now worn again and the strap that you pull to collapse the pushchair has snapped.

The retailer has said they will repair it again.
We have said that this really isn't good enough now as this will be the 3rd time it has been back for repair in 10 months. We have said we would like them to refund us or exchange for a different model.
They have said that as we have had the pushchair for over a year the only thing they will do is repair it, and that we need to take up any complaints with the manufacturer.

I have always believed that my contract is with the retailer and its them that I should be contacting with a complaint.

Where do I stand?? Are three repairs in 10 months acceptable? They are advertising this pushchair as being suitable from birth to 4 years, I haven't even been using it a year yet!!!

Thanks in advance
Charlotte

rear wheels wearing down, is usually due to bags being placed on the handles, but unless you are walking hundreds of miles, then 3m really isnt that long a time for them to wear down

However solid plastic wheels are only designed for light use on smooth paths, rubber tyres are ok for most surfaces, and pneumatic tyres are great for rough/uneven ground

    which pushchair is it?

Its the Bebeconfort (aka Maxi cosi) Streety.
There isn't an option of having bags on the handlebars as its a single straight across handlebar.
They are rubber tyres, I have since read reviews on the pushchair and both faults that I'm complaining about seem to be common faults.

Its a shame because I really like the pushchair in general, but am feeling really let down at the moment!

i think after 3 faults in one year, i would contact the manufacturer, copy them all your paperwork for the repairs and take it from there. the pushchair obviously isnt suitable for the intended use, so go down the sale of goods act route

  • Ok, thanks.
I've printed out the sales of goods acts. Just need to write a letter now!!
  • DD has this model of pushchair, grandaughter was out in it yesterday with her daddy and the frame snapped!. Shes only 6mnths old, its barely been used.. Took it back to Toys R Us today and they got the 3rd degree.. Their wheels were also worn down and the shop was saying it was well used. Only the car seat is the part used consistantly and the whole pushchair looks like new. They also tried to say she had been putting shopping over the handles, but like prev poster states, its just not poss. They have given her a repl pram temp while the pram goes back to manufacturer, but state if a manufacturing fault not found she will have to pay £15 to have it ret(for postage) robbers!
