Whats a reasonable amount for an electric check?

Hi,
I am looking at buying my first property but on my survey it has said that the electrics need to be looked at by an electrician to say that they are safe and useable.
It's a two bed terrace in the west of Scotland.
Can anyone give me a ball park figure of what this kind of check would cost? I have a grave idea that i'm the type of person to be conned-especially as im not sure what it is im asking for!
Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks!

If you want a full test of the electrics and a written report, then I would allow the best part of a day to do it properly- you'll need to find out the day rate in your area as I'm sure it's not the same as mine (London!).
Be wary of people offering to do it for £50 and then hoping to make it up on the overpriced remedial works (which I'm sure they'll be). You also don't have to use the original sparks to carry these out, but are free to get other quotes

I recently (following a lightning strike!) had mine done. 2 guys, about 5 hours £299. That was for a 4 bed house. I would gues £150-£200 for a small 2 bed

I generally charge from £75 (small 1 bed flat) to £150 for a 4 apartment house.
It also depends on what you want - do you want a full inspection and test or do you only want to know if the electrics are servicable?
A full check takes some time, but I can usually tell fairly quickly if the electrics are beyond saving.baldly going on...0 -
I just paid £130 for a 2-bed house

Your survey is not saying that there is anything wrong with the electrics. It's just saying that it's excluded from the survey, just as the gas and water systems will be. A visual inspection will tell you how old the current installation is and whether it is due for updating. For example if the CU has old cartridge fuses and no MCB'sfitted, then it will probably be more than 15-20 years old and due for updating. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the advice. I think it might need a new switch fuse box installed but i'm just guessing.
I'm hoping the cost of that wont be too expensive.
Many thanks for all your helpFeb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790
