I'm a big fan of cream in cooking. Some regard cream as a wanton extravagance but I say 27p per 100ml for double cream is a bargain.

You don't need loads to make a dish really special. I made a leek and bacon tart last night which had 150ml of double cream in between 5 people, that a little over 8p each for a touch of luxury.
