Batch Scanning Photographs

Have lots of old family photo's, some black and white that I'd love to get scanned and put onto disc for posterity and ability to edit and print.
I cannot seem to find a scanner that will scan individual photo's in a batch. The flat bed scanners are of no use (too much lifting and closing of the lid for my liking)
Other than use the services of a professional scanning company does anyone have any other ideas?

I did come across some software ages ago - all you did was place the photos on a flatbed scanner, press Scan and it even rotated them correctly for you!

I'll be keeping my eyes peeled on this thread, because I want to find the software again!

Think the software might have been called vuescan.

So nobody scans their old black and white photo's then?

I'm afraid I don't really understand the question - are you looking for a really big flatbed scanner ? Or a scanner that you can feed individual documents through, like a fax machine? Isn't buying a specialised scanner going to be more expensive than getting a pro to do it ?

FWIW, I scanned my my old photos on an a4 flatbed scanner, putting as many as would fit on it at a time, then chopped them up and rotated them, optimised them etc in Photoshop.

I did the same. My Epson scanner will sort out the individual photos from however many you put on the flat bed, so I don't have to "chop & rotate": you can then "tweak" them as necessary in whatever photo package you may have.
  • But you may sell the scanner when you have finished.

What format are these photos? Slides? Film strips? Paper? (Size? Thickness? Creased?)

If you have the negative's you can get batch scanners for them.
