My friend OH has been told his company is closing. He is 65 in a couple of months. Will he get redundancy pay if:
1. It closes before his birthday
2. It closes after his birthday

They don't have to pay redundancy once you are 65 so I guess they might hold off until your friend has his birthday but then they might be kind and pay him anyway. He needs to talk to HR dept..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I believe it is one of the exceptions, you an still retire people at 65 without reason.0

I disagree - it depends on the circumstances.
Couple of things - has he been advised in writing at any time in the past 12 months that he is coming up for retirement and that he can apply to remain with the Company?
Has he advised the company he was going to retire at 65?
How many people are affected by the redundancy?
Have they been given notice of the fact their jobs will be redundant in writing?
Consultation with affected staff?0
