Replacement Laptop Charger Current Mismatch

Just need a quick bit of advice as I have recently been given a working laptop but it has no charger. As luck would have it I have a charger that fits and seems to work ok however the Ratings are differnet to the laptops as follows

Laptop 19v 3.42A 65W

Charger 18.5 6.5A 120W

As you can see the Amps and Watts are a lot higher but will the laptop just draw what it needs and be ok or is this the output. As I said it's worked ok but I've only used it a couple of times just to check out the laptop.

Thanks.

For a power supply to be correct it needs to be the same voltage and be able to supply at least the current the laptop needs.

That supply is 0.5v down on the original but you'll virtually certainly get away with that. There is absolutely no chance that it can in any way shove more current into the laptop than it needs - electricity simply doesn't work that way.
  • Great Thanks a lot. :-)
