Yeh a tough choice !! Do I cancel my holiday already booked and lose £800 or attend the interview when I probably will not get the position
No need to be patronising and nasty. I was just thinking that a chance of dream job would be worth it. I didnt realise she had a young family. Who are you to say she probably wouldnt get it? I dont know how much to holiday costs, only that a great opportunity is at stake! Honestly, how horrible."You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"0 -
We are in exactly the same boat - a weeks holiday booked (been booked for year) at the end of August and suddenly hubby is getting lots of interviews and offers of temp work.
The recruitment agencies aren't so keen when they know your away for a week though so what do you do?
Cancel in the hope that the temp work through the agency works out into something a bit longer term or take the chance and don't take the agency work and never get an offer with them again, alternatively we could cancel and hubby goes along with agency work to find it only lasts a week or two.
Also, another thing we though about taking a temp job through an agency is that its difficault then to have time off to attend interviews for 'proper' jobs......its a toughie all round

Apologies it was not my intention to come across like that.
I think that most people with a holiday already booked should take it rather then lose a lot of money that they have already paid for. I think in circumstances like this employers, particularly HR dept's can be more flexible.0 -

When i temped i had the same problem for job interviews. I ended up using my holiday hours to go to them, if i had built up enough. Also i pretended i was going the doctors once but was actually an interview!! Naughty i know, but i badly wanted a permanent job and to stop temping! They never seemed to check."You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"0 -
go on your holiday and enjoy it. they may not find a suitable candidate so do let them know nicely you are available for an interview when you get back!QUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0

Personally I would not tell the recruitment agency that you are going on holiday. It would reduce your chance of them offering you any work before your holiday
If for arguments sake, they had a 3 month booking but you were going away in a months time, I would take the booking and say nothing to the agency about your holiday
Please remember that you owe no loyalty whatsoever to the recruitment agency. They can easily turn around tomorrow at 4.55 pm when you are in regular work and say that you are not needed by their client anymore0 -

It's okay.
I just heard the word 'Dream job'! I didn't know if it was an expensive holiday or not. I do realise how frustrating it is. I recently cancelled a long weekend away for a job interview (not quite the same i know, but i was looking forward to it for ages) but fortunately i got the job! Luckily i am single and don't have a family to look after unlike Bee78...well apart from my parents, haha. They need a bit of care! "You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"0 -

So what do you do about the holiday when the time comes? He would'nt have accrued enough time to have the week off and he's not the type to drop the employer in it....0 -

Again, if it was me I would take the holiday. I have had bad experiences with employment agencies and feel no loyalty to them at all. They have given me what I thought were regular bookings for work in the past and then cancelled my contract giving me no notice at all. On one occssion I was told not to turn up for work when I had already clocked in Plus they would not pay me for that day !
Please do not go by what I think or have said, It would have to be yours or your husbands decision.0
